Project Aid The Gambia has recently made a donation of a container load of medical equipment to the Serrekunda General Hospital in Kanifing, following a series of donations of this kind to the Hospital.

The medical equipment included sterile gauze bandages, suctioning machine, manikin, 53 thousand and 95 facemasks, drip stands, (10) C pap machine, chairs, and tables among others which would be needed in the hospital to treat patients.

Speaking before the donation of the equipment, Fatima Njie, the Project Manager of Project Aid The Gambia said this was not the first time that the organisation was donating medical items to the hospital.

Madam Njie however, identified the items and their specific functions which will facilitate the work of the Doctors and Nurses at the hospital.

“The C pap machine will help patients to breathe comfortably, the facemasks for the prevention of the airborne diseases, tables, chairs for the other departments as well, the practice manikins for the Nurses and Doctors under training”, she noted.

Mr. Charles Abdoulie Mbye, the Local Chairman of the project pointed out that some of the items were donated by the board of directors in Germany. Noting that there is a special bond between the Serrekunda General Hospital and Project Aid The Gambia for they have been donating medical items to the hospital for some years which they intend to continue.

Mr Mbye noted that the CEO’s contribution would be needed in identifying the things they require in the hospital to facilitate their work to get the necessary items in the future.

Mr. Basiru Drammeh, the CEO of the Kanifing Hospital, thanked the donors for their generosity and also pointed out with appreciation that the Project requested in advance a list of the items that the hospital would need instead of just buying and donating items that may not be a priority to the hospital.

Mr. Drammeh also said that the items will go a long way in preventing so many deaths in the hospital or certain complications for the patients.
