Sparta, Michigan — Expansion of Sparta's manufacturing plant at a cost of $36 million is expected to create 25 local jobs.

This is the second multi-million dollar expansion of the facility in recent years.

The Right Place announced this week the expansion of Tesa Tape, a global adhesive manufacturer headquartered in Germany.

Tesa Tape stated that it decided to plant the Sparta plant, located at 324 S. Union St., to increase its production and operations in North America. This was the company's first company outside Europe opened in 1982.

The Spartan plant currently has 125 employees and mainly produces tapes and self-adhesive system solutions for industrial and professional use. The expansion project will be built on the adjacent sports field on South Union Street.

Daniel said in a statement: "The huge investment in our Tesa plant in Sparta is aimed at providing more sustainable and innovative self-adhesive technology to customers in important industrial sectors such as the automotive and construction industries. And a big step forward for the product." Germain, Regional Manager of Tesa Tape North America.

Tesa tape has 5,000 employees worldwide.

According to the press release, The Right Place, an economic development organization based in Grand Rapids, has partnered with Tesa Tape, Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) and Spartan Village to ensure that investments are made locally rather than outside the state.

"Tesa's decision to expand in Grand Rapids is a classic example of the region's status as a globally competitive business destination," said Olivia Lanctot, business development coordinator and project leader at The Right Place, in a statement.

Spartan officials approved a 50% tax cut on the project for a period of 12 years. It is also waiting for MEDC's support.

According to the April board meeting agenda, Tesa Tape is seeking US$450,000 from the Michigan Strategic Fund.

Spartan Village Manager Shay Gallagher (Shay Gallagher) issued a statement saying that Tesa Tape is the main employer in the community, and this investment will "greatly promote our local economic development."

The company previously spent US$20 million to expand the Spartan plant in 2016. It also operates the Tesa Automotive Solutions Center in Novi and the North American warehouse in Walker.
