LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Louisville actor with Down syndrome is hitting the small screen.

David DeSanctis, a Down Syndrome of Louisville member, stars in the film "Color my World with Love." He plays the love interest in a movie about two people with Down syndrome who get engaged, but his fiancée's mother in the movie has concerns about the couple moving too fast.

"Everyone has a dream to fall in love and get married one day, even people with disabilities," said Lily D. Moore, who also stars in the film. "I hope viewers take away that 'Color My World with Love' is about painting your own story through your emotions and that we all have endless possibilities.

"We are the shining stars - the people with down syndrome or people with cross abilities or intellectual developmental disabilities," said DeSanctis told WDRB from his Louisville home on Monday. "They actually chose me not by the audition tape, they chose me from my first movie to actually cast me as Brad Garrison."

DeSanctis and the cast shot the movie over several weeks in Vancouver back in March - often working 14-hour days.

This is not DeSanctis' first movie, however. He appeared in an independent movie back in 2015. Since then he has landed an agent in L.A. and plans on doing more movies.

When he is not acting DeSanctis is a public outreach associate for the National Down syndrome and also works with Down Syndrome of Louisville.

"It's kind of like in real time we are seeing Hollywood finally cast individuals with disabilities to play the disable characters that are being written," said Down Syndrome of Louisville engagement Director Carly Riggs.

As for his future plans, DeSanctis wants to eventually work with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Vin Diesel. He has some words of advice for those who face rejection because of who they are.

"Just shake it off and let it go and let it be that you have to just go on with life," DeSanctis said.

The movie airs Sunday, June 12, at 9 p.m. on the Hallmark Movie and Mysteries channel.
